Pusat Jagaan Rumah Love and Care Kajang Home
Our old folk’s home was set up in the year 2003 as a ministry of social concern under the Lutheran Church of Malaysia, operating in a donated single storey corner house (No.1 Jalan S 8, Taman Sakap, 43000 Kajang). This home caters to female residents. Three years later, in 2006, we set up another home, also a donated single storey home across the road (No.8 Jalan S7, Taman Sakap), catering to male residents. Both homes are registered with Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat Negeri Selangor.
We operate on charity basis for poor old folks in need of a care home. Gradually because of demand, we opened up to also accept those whose children could not look after their old folks for various reasons. We try our best to do our part in filling a need of society by providing love and care not only to deserving seniors in their golden years but also to OKU persons who are in need of care. We also provide day care service to those who come in the morning and go back in the evening.
Currently, we have 15 residents (5 males and 10 females), living in separate premises. The female home is nearing full capacity, and we intend to add another dormitory soon, to cater to further intake of at least six more new residents. The male home can still take in another five residents.
We have a lady resident who will turn 100 years old in December 2019 and she is still relatively healthy, being with us for eight years and she is able to walk on her own with a walking frame. We plan to celebrate her 100 years birthday on 31 August 2019, in conjunction with the biennial general meeting of LCM at its headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
Apart from the supervisor, we have a supporting team of four workers helping out in the daily activities of both homes : two general caregivers, a cook cum caregiver and a driver cum caregiver.
The home van is used to ferry folks to see doctors at nearby hospitals and government clinics as their medical needs arise. It is also used for collecting donated items (meat, vegetables, bread etc) regularly from the markets and a nearby bakery. We do very much appreciate the dedication and generosity of our long term donors from three markets, who have been supporting us for more than 10 years. We also continue to receive with heartfelt thanks donations in cash and kind from various individuals, groups and corporations.
Various groups of individuals and students (from colleges) have come periodically to provide volunteer service and “gotong royong” to both our homes (eg, cleaning of windows and fans, clearing drains, cutting grass). These include a karaoke group who comes every few months to give entertainment to our folks, one or two who can sing also joined in the fun. Occasionally, a Chinese physician and his team comes to do acupressure and massage. Currently, we have a Chinese medical student from University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) here to provide moxibustion treatment to two or three folks for incontinence.
A group of senior citizens led by Ps Peter Lee, assisted by sister Peggy Chin, from the Semenyih Life Lutheran Church comes fortnightly to fellowship: singing hymns, sharing sermonettes and testimonies…topped up with refreshments contributed by the senior sisters of the group. This dedicated group has been actively involved in fellowship with our folks for more than two years now. We deeply appreciate their continuing love, care and kindness.
